Many battles of Darkness and Light have left the universe wounded. It's evident that the blame lays with the keyblades, weapons whose true purpose is to keep the balance stable. At least that's what some believe, those who hate the keyblades, hate them for disturbing the balance. They are the Celestials, divine watchers of the balance.

The balance of Light and Darkness shifts on such a constant basis that it sends ripples through the universe, which in turn destroy worlds. If the balance doesn't return, Light and Darkness will be destroyed forever.

To stop this madness, the Celestials have sealed every keyblade of every path in the Keyblade Graveyard. Only they can remove the seal. Those who attempt to retrieve them will face severe consequences.

Revealing themselves before all worlds, they give every soul this message...

"Keyblades bring only corruption and are slowly killing the balance. For that reason, we have sealed them in the Keyblade Graveyard. If you ever try to retrieve them, expect severe punishment. These evil things should never be in the hands of any mortal or immortal."

Now that keybearers are without their signature weapons, they have resorted to ordinary weapons. They must somehow convince the Celestials that keyblades are needed to uphold the balance. For without balance, life doesn't exist.
